Duke is an adult, male red footed tortoise.  He was found wandering around and DuPage County Animal Control picked him up.  When they couldn't find his owner our foster home took him in.  He is unknown age but their vet confirmed he is a male and in good health.  He is very sweet and very active.  It's no surprise he got out, he loves to wander around the yard and is a surprisingly good climber.  Red footed tortoises can reach up to 30 lbs and can be about 10-16 inches.  And they can live up to 50 years so he could be a very long term commitment, by 10 yrs they are fully grown.  He will need a large enclosure (4' x 8') with heat and UVB/UVA lights along with humidity.  They are relatively low maintenance once things are set up correctly though.
